Vision is not one statistic. Your view range, the enemy's concealment, foliage, distance, and whether either vehicle fires all affect detection. Equipment should target the part of that chain that is actually failing.
Know the four distances
- 50 m: proximity spotting reveals vehicles regardless of concealment or solid cover.
- Your view range: the value used against an enemy's effective concealment.
- 445 m: the maximum distance at which your vehicle can spot an enemy itself.
- 565 m: the approximate draw distance for vehicles already spotted by your team.
View range above 445 m is not wasted. It cannot extend the maximum spotting circle, but it helps overcome concealment and can reveal hidden vehicles sooner inside that circle.
Concealment, bushes, and firing
A bush must cover the vehicle from the observer's direction. When you are within 15 m of foliage, you can see through it; firing then greatly reduces the foliage's protection. Pulling back until the bush becomes opaque before firing is the familiar double-bush technique. It protects the shot better, but temporarily removes your own view through that bush, so an ally may need to keep the target lit.
Tier V and higher light tanks retain the same base concealment while moving as while stationary. Other classes normally lose concealment when moving. Shooting is a major concealment event for all vehicles and should be planned around hard cover or a safe retreat path.
Optics, CVS, and Exhaust solve different problems
- Coated Optics: raises continuous view range, both moving and stationary.
- Commander's Vision System: reduces enemy concealment while moving and behind foliage.
- Low Noise Exhaust: raises your own concealment while moving and stationary.
Optics helps when observer strength is the constraint. CVS helps when concealed enemies remain difficult to reveal. Exhaust helps when you are detected too early. Combining items can be valid, but every vision slot displaces firepower, survivability, or mobility.
A repeatable scouting decision loop
- Identify which enemy positions your route can reveal and which guns can shoot them.
- Preserve an exit before advancing; information is less useful if the scout cannot survive.
- Watch the minimap for unspotted vehicles before assuming a lane is safe.
- Separate spotting from shooting. Firing is optional when remaining hidden creates more team damage.
- Relocate when your current information no longer changes a teammate's decision.
Because classic WN8 does not directly include assisted damage, review scouting alongside assistance and survival. The WN8 guide explains that limitation.
